WHAT IS ACRYLIC ACID?

Acrylic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H4O2. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and is soluble in water, ethanol, and ether. It is chemically active and can easily polymerize in air. It can be reduced to propionic acid by hydrogenation and can form 2-chloropropionic acid by addition with hydrogen chloride. It is mainly used to prepare acrylic acid resin.

Acrylic acid is used to prepare acrylic acid resin and other organic synthesis. It can be obtained by oxidizing acrylic aldehyde or hydrolyzing acrylonitrile, and can also be obtained by the reaction of carbon monoxide, acetylene, and water on a nickel catalyst.

Waterborne acrylic acid anticorrosive coatings are usually used in the field of moderate and mild corrosion protection. They are usually composed of three coats of primer, intermediate coat, and topcoat to form a coating system and play a role. The primer is the foundation of the entire coating, used to prevent the penetration of water, ions, and oxygen, and has good adhesion and corrosion resistance. It can be used with waterborne epoxy and bio acrylic acid primer, and can also form a composite system with solvent-based coatings. The intermediate coat is mainly used to improve the adhesion with the topcoat and primer, make the adhesion between two layers of coating more closely, increase the thickness of the coating, and improve the shielding ability of the entire coating system. The topcoat has the functions of beautiful decoration and preventing penetration, and is usually a clear paint without pigments, used to improve the weather resistance of the entire coating.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF ACRYLIC ACID?

The effects of acrylic products are:

Acrylic acid is an important organic synthetic raw material and synthetic resin monomer, and is a fast-polymerizing ethylene monomer.

Acrylic acid is mostly used to produce acrylic acid esters such as methyl, ethyl, butyl, and hydroxyethyl esters. Acrylic acid and its esters can undergo homopolymerization and copolymerization. The resulting polymers are used in the industrial sectors of synthetic resin, synthetic fiber, high-water-absorbing resin, building materials, coatings, etc.

Acrylic acid can undergo characteristic reactions of carboxylic acids and react with alcohols to obtain corresponding esters. Acrylic acid and its esters can undergo polymerization reactions to generate homopolymers or copolymers when mixed with other monomers. Monomers that can usually copolymerize with acrylic acid include acrylamides, acrylonitrile, ethylene-containing monomers, styrene, and butadiene. These polymers can be used to produce various plastics, coatings, adhesives, elastomers, floor waxing agents, and paints.
