Pokemon GO changed my life…
The summer of 2016 was when the world was as close as it could be to “world peace.” I remember sitting at random parks with 100+ strangers waiting for someone to pop a lure module. There was almost one person that shouted out “ I got us!” To be honest, my friends and I probably broke every traffic law possible in Vancouver. When POKERadar was still online we would drive anywhere to catch that Snorlax that was despawning in 5 minutes and 22 seconds. If there was a red light, we would right turn-Uturn-right turn to go straight. We got pulled over and the cop asked us if we drank anything at 2 am. My buddy said “we’re just poke hunting” the cop couldn’t hold back and started laughing and even wished us luck.
EVERYTHING CHANGED… when 2020 attacked. Years later I moved to South Korea as an English Teacher. If you know anything about the work hours here in Asia, they are strenuous and exhausting. I would work from 8:30 am until 7:55 pm teaching 11 classes with breaks being a scarcity. After work, it was so easy to go out and eat Korean BBQ every night with 1 dollar soju. You could extrapolate my weight gain from here. I thought to myself how can I add more exercise to my routine. Of course, I had a gym membership but I wanted to get out and explore South Korea a little more. This is where Pokemon Go saved the day.
Walking around my neighborhood, I would often see little kids biking around with cellphone mounts catching Pokemon. 4 years later I thought Pokemon Go was dead. My old buddy moved to South Korea with me and he downloaded the game and persisted me to download it too. He needed help… he wanted my account to raid legendary pokemon! These new features made it more enticing to play again. Look story short, I played everyday grinding stardust and kilometers to hatch my goddamn egg. I finally saw progress in terms of my body weight! I lost a total of 25 pounds just playing Pokemon Go!
I know if you’re reading this you must be tempted to download Pokemon Go again! I want to advocate that the game has improved significantly and even has a player vs. player mode to show off your skills. World Peace soon to come.
