What’s the point of taking heavy-duty off-roaders to the drag strip? A true test of 4×4 performance involves racing up the steep dune outside Dubai, just like Crank and Piston did in the video below.

The rules for race are simple–all vehicles must be stock, the truck that makes it furthest up the hill without getting stuck wins. In that case, this isn’t really the drag race as such, but it’s damn fun, so we will give Crank and Piston a pass.

This competition features three legendary off-roaders–the Nissan Patrol (and which is sold in the U.S. as the Armada), the Toyota Land Cruiser, and the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×⁴².

Well, the Mercedes is the only one with heavy-duty portal axles, so unsurprisingly, it emerges as the clear winner here.

That is not to say the Nissan and the Toyota put on the bad showing here. All are incredibly capable for stock 4x4s.

Now, we would really like to see the G500 4×⁴² go up against Mercedes’ newest, the wildest G-Wagen, the Maybach G 650 Landulet. If those cars got stuck there, the drivers are to blame.
