We live in a Tech-Savvy generation where we look for a breakthrough or new advancement in technology everyday. That’s why it should come at no surprise automakers are putting more gadgets and buttons in cars that do things. Ready for some innovation? Coming to the United States in 2018 is the Honda Civic Type R, and it screams 22nd Century.

Specs

A traditional 2.0 4-Cylinder i-VTEC engine generates an insane 306 HP with 295 lb-ft of torque, powering 20" alloy wheels. Engineers reading this may be scratching their heads with wonder and confusion, asking “what evil genius could’ve done this?” Well, the techs at Honda turbocharged this beast. The Type R comes with 3 different drive modes, as well as a standard 6-speed manual transmission. It will be offered in two-door and four-door, the same as the Honda Civic SI. Fuel consumption is still not released at this time but it is rumored to be reduced from its’ predecessor which was first released in Europe in 2015.

Background

First released in 2015, The Type R was not for sale in the United States, but car enthusiast in countries such as the United Kingdom and Japan got a chance to own one of these revolutionary Hondas. Hondas’ Civic line hasn’t been well-known for its’ world renowned style or startling high number of horsepower, but more so for it’s conservative appearance and driver dependability. By many, the Honda Civic has been referred to as a “great 1st car” for many years, throughout all of it’s generations — not necessarily something you would bother with in attempt for a new lap time at the Nürburgring. The Honda Civic has also been know by certain car enthusiast for it’s long list of modifications such as a lowered suspension and 40" exhaust pipes.

Interior and features

Carbon fiber and aluminum are some of the key ingredients that make up the Type R, primarily for weight reduction. It can easily be spotted throughout the car. Lightweight-race inspired bucket seats, lowered Adaptive Damper System suspension (ADS), Limited Slip Differential, and a wide body is the perfect recipe for taking a hair-pin turn at high speeds and coming out alive on the other side. The 7" touch screen with navigation also comes with dual-zone automatic climate control in between two toned-red and black leather-upholstery, steering wheel with easy to understand fingertip controls, and a 540-watt premium sound system that plays through 12 speakers. Also in the inside, you can find a Digital Meter Display that displays boost, g-force and track lap time readouts.

In the front you have a well defined, black mesh grille situated under intimidating LED headlights. From the front, to the back, to the side skirts, you can find carbon fiber. In the rear you can find triple exhaust tips integrated into the air-diffuser. Above the trunk lid, in between the two futuristic taillights, you will find the huge boy racer-wing, the same one you can find on the Subaru WRX.

The Type R has focused on speed which means needed down-force to keep you from taking off or catching some lift off over-steer in the corners, so the virtually flat under body working with the huge spoiler keeps the Type R sucked to the ground. Overall, the Type R is arguably impressive to look at.

Cost

Okay, so we all know this bundle of joy isn’t free and its going to cost more than your average 10th Generation Honda Civic, even the SI version. The definite price has not been released at the moment but we can expect it to range from $35,000–$39,000 in the US. Could you have ever imagined paying over $30,000 for a Honda Civic?
