Strongly agree with your thoughts in this piece. When I use Inbox for Gmail and I can’t drag a recipient from to: to cc:, in my mind I hear Google enginners saying this kind of thing. “Oh that’s an edge case, people don’t do that any more.” Which I see as a kind of technical imperialism — we do it as technologists but we don’t think “regular” people need to do it. The result is inferior products for end users that go backwards as far as usability goes, in the name of simplicity.
