If you were to ask me if vehicle advertising is effective, my answer will always be an excited and loud, “Yes!”. The truth is, advertising on your vehicle is NEVER a bad idea. The type of ad depends on the type of business you run. Different businesses require different types of signs; full vehicle wraps, partial wraps, window wraps, window signs, and magnetic signs are all effective in different ways. I would only recommend a full vehicle wrap if your vehicle is strictly used for Business purposes, and can afford a seperate personal vehicle. In most cases I would recommend starting out with magnetic signs, and here’s why…

On average every driver travels approximately 13,500 miles each year. That’s an average of 30 to 40 miles a day! Imagine how many other drivers are exposed to your already blank canvas on a daily basis? Those same drivers could be your next client! Please keep in mind that it’s a numbers game, so you may get 1 prospect out of every 500 drivers or more. Everyone’s results vary, but like one of my favorite marketers Gary Vaynerchuk says, Attention Is Everything! The key is to be in people’s faces as much as possible!

One of the many benefits of having magnetic signs is that they are as easy to put on as they are to remove should you want your personal vehicle back, or need them on another vehicle. The other great thing about it is that they are very affordable (who doesn’t like that?). Most magnets are priced anywhere from $50 to $100 for the pair, while a full wrap could cost $900 to $5000 or more, depending on design of course. So let’s go into it! What are some of the things you should look into before investing in your first pair of car magnets?

1. Visibility Is Important

What good is a sign if you can’t even read it, right? The first thing to look at is color, the color of the magnet should stand out and compliment the color of your vehicle. If your magnet is dark and blends in with your dark colored vehicle it will not be clearly visible and people will miss your message all together. So, make those colors pop if you want to draw attention!

2. The Three Second Rule

Drivers don’t have much time to decide whether or not they are interested in what your sign says, and have little time to take your contact information before you drive away, that is why the 3 second rule is important! The 3 second rule is this… Drivers have 3 seconds to see your sign and determine whether or not they need to contact you. It’s that simple, the information on your magnet should be kept to a minimum. I suggest adding your business name and/or logo, your phone number or website, and your main service. If they are interested, you want this information to be easy to take down. Let’s say for example that you are an Insurance Agent who is also a Realtor on your spare time, you should not list both of your services on the same magnet, decide which of the two you want to advertise and print that. A magnet that has too much information won’t even get a second look unfortunately.

To make sure you catch their attention consider adding a photo that best represents your product or service. Let’s say you decide to go with Realtor as your main service, an image of a house with a “For Sale” sign in the foreground would be a great representation of your work. If you are a party supply store, a photo of a bounce house or table and chairs is a quick attention grabber. The key is to think long and hard about the image that best tells your story!

3. Call To Action

Decide ahead of time what action you want people to take. Do you want them to visit your website? Do you want them to call for more information? Do you want them to visit your shop? Or do you want them to follow you on instagram? Whatever your goal is, you want your contact information to be quick and easy to take down, and please don’t add too many contact options, this could be confusing and too distracting!

Conclusion:

You spend a lot of time driving all around town; to the market, the cleaners, to pick up your children, take your date out to the movies, etc. Every outing is an opportunity to let your neighborhood know that you are a call away! Heck, some of your neighbors may even finally discover what you do for a living and you may make a new friend! Remember that vehicle marketing is a great attention grabber, and with so many people driving with their phones at arm’s reach they can quickly snap a photo or dial your number on the spot! Hopefully while at a red light! Safe driving and best wishes on your marketing endeavours!!!
