I keep seeing everyone mention (including Joonas) that the message was sent to the from email, but from reading the post and looking at the images shared, they sent an SMS to the number from your old phone. This was most likely obtained from the sim card, as turning the phone on is a risk for any criminal. Mobile phone theft is common in Europe, and the the criminals typically just swap out the sim cards when they can. In the case of Joonas, it was a crime of opportunity and the fact it was an iPhone he’s seen as a more valuable target.
