First Six Months On Medium: My 3 Writing Goals

As I start writing on Medium, setting goals serves two purposes.

Number one: it sets the direction. It gives me something to aim for. It asks “what am I actually trying to achieve here?”, making the path I’m going down more intentional.

Number two: it reminds me what I’m not trying to do. With any new project, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, frustrated and ultimately quit too early. If that happened here, it wouldn’t be the first time. Setting goals is a way to strategically choose what isn’t going to be the focus — especially when it’s tempting to do everything, all at once.

Bonus: public goals boost accountability. By saying them out loud, not completing them will be all the more painful — hopefully giving me an extra push to keep on going.

So, below are my three goals for my first six months of writing on Medium.

1. Write daily-ish

Over the next six months, the top priority is being consistent.

The goal is to maintain a daily-ish writing habit. I’m intentionally starting now — while things aren’t perfect. I’ve got holidays planned, professional exams to take and busy periods at work. It feels like it would be better to start in three months’ time. And that, I’m certain, will always be the case.
