Starting A Newsletter? Don’t Do What I Did

If you’re thinking of starting a newsletter, I’m all for it.

This is a digital world. It makes sense to have a digital presence. Somewhere for people to find you, connect, and hear more from you. That’s what I was trying to do between July 2021 and June 2022 — the 12 months where I tried, then failed spectacularly, to get my newsletter off the ground. I sunk a tonne of time and effort into it, burned out and put myself off writing completely in the process. I wanted nothing more to do with it.

I don’t want that to be you.

So, I’ll tell you what happened. What I did, the six biggest mistakes I made and how you can avoid wasting hundreds of hours on an email newsletter that’s going nowhere.

Here we go

I remember being being at home, having completed Master’s degree and having also just discovered the work of Austin Kleon, specifically his book Show Your Work.
