5 Minutes with….East Midlands Speech Therapy Services
Today, mum of 3 Louise tells us all about her business which supports children with additional needs and their families.
Can you tell us a little more about East Midlands Speech Therapy Services. Speech Therapy services aims to support children who have communication needs to reach their potential. An initial assessment can be carried out quickly and supported with outstanding speech therapy expertise. You may choose us as we are a small dedicated team employed by schools, nurseries, families and sometimes grandparents! We want to support children, bridging the gap between statutory services and even if you have a NHS SLT we will work consistently with them too. Some children come to us unsure of what the problem might be and others already have a diagnosis, language delay, delayed speech, autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral palsy, and need support to express themselves.
Can you tell us about the type of activities that you use in your sessions? All Speech Therapy sessions are aimed to be holistic and fun as possible. If we are working with a younger child, it may almost been seen as play, but there will be a solid set of reasons why certain targets would be met this way. Any games that are motivating the children don’t see as work and love coming to the speech therapy sessions as they are ‘playing’. When in schools and nurseries we aim to work with teachers and staff to provide the communication package bespoke for your child. My magic hat never fails, the mystery behind what’s in there engages any child!
What is the best thing about your job? Everyday is so different and I get to meet so many different and lovely families.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a mum? Every child has strengths and weakness, remember that. No two children are the same.
What’s next for Speech Therapy Services? We have just opened two new clinic bases to help support more families, one in Ripley Derbyshire and another in Ringstead, Norfolk. We will be at the event Lark in the Park in West Bridgford in August. We also offer free training to schools and nurseries to enable others to support children with their communication skills. Many thanks to Louise for a really interested look into the support her business offers to families. For further information or to one of the therapists see the contact details below.
