“Work hard and play hard” is the motto for many of us who work tirelessly. So when we earn that one week off, we want to treat our physically and mentally exhausted selves to the most memorable vacation, and as even the most beloved ones can disrupt the cathartic experience we are seeking, many prefer to travel freely, often alone.

Inspired and excited, we start with flights, a time consuming task when trying to factor in humane flight time, minimal layovers, legroom, etc. We experiment with different dates/times for flights and nearby airports in search of saving a few bucks. We repeat this process in several online travel agencies and identify the best deal. Halfway confident, we contact individual airlines directly to ensure we haven’t missed a special deal.
After numerous hours spent on searching for that perfect flight, we move onto identifying the most affordable hotel room in the middle of all attractions. Choices are overwhelmingly immense. There are numerous online travel agencies, airbnb, Craigslist, individual hotels, etc. But without understanding the area and its main attractions, we are clueless as to the ideal location for the hotel.
So research begins during which time we end up pulling our hair out trying to read up on countless tourist spots, outdoor activities, organized tours, concerts and events, clubs, markets, etc. — and every one of these have million reviews with contradicting opinions to confuse us even more.
By this time some of us throw in the towel and opt for a nice relaxing time at home convinced that solo travel can be dangerous, lonely, and not worth the time, effort, and money.
