Perrysburg is often overlooked as a Midwest travel destination, but this charming Ohio town deserves a spot on your bucket list! Just south of Toledo along the Maumee River, Perrysburg offers history buffs, nature lovers, foodies, and families plenty of hidden attractions waiting to be uncovered.

Getting acquainted with Perrysburg starts with a stroll through the quaint downtown filled with limestone buildings housing indie shops and cafes. History comes alive at Fort Meigs, where you can immerse yourself in the War of 1812 timeline. The riverside parks and trails allow you to reconnect with nature through hiking, biking, and water recreation.

But there’s much more to Perrysburg than meets the eye! Here are a few of my favorite hidden gems:

  • Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra — This volunteer classical orchestra offers free summer concerts in the picturesque parks. Pack a picnic and enjoy melodies as the sun sets over the river.
  • Side Cut Metropark — These nearly 3,000 acres are great for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, and getting breathtaking river panoramas. Don’t miss the limestone kilns and quarry, remnants of the agrarian economy.
  • Toledo Botanical Garden — These urban gardens blossom with color just minutes from downtown. It’s a tranquil spot for admiring flowers and enjoying lunch from the café.
  • Way Public Library’s Heritage Park — Every Saturday morning throughout summer, enthusiastic volunteers dress in period costumes and act out historical Perrysburg tales outdoors. It’s both educational and entertaining!

Beyond the sights, Perrysburg exudes Midwestern charm through community events, charming storefronts, and neighborhood camaraderie. It’s the perfect low-key destination for making special memories.
