Delivering Thorns instead of Kisses

Words are important, but so is the heart behind it. We are responsible not just for what we communicate, but how we communicate. So much can be forgiven by how something is said if we can trust that the person saying the offense is good. “Thorns from my friends” one might say.

Whether you are going through a transition, implementing a new goal to your team, or just trying to have an honest conversation with a coworker; you need to first ask yourself “do our people trust that we are good, and is what I am about to say going to be done with the right heart?”

On the surface it is communication. But deeper you’ll find a foundation of trust. Deeper still, within that trust, is a mutual understanding that you are for me, not against me. If there is a breakdown in communication, work backwards to the heart.
