The Top Layer of Dirt

30 Days of Cleaning: Thanks, Mom!

There is a Texas saying about house cleaning.

You aren’t really cleaning, you are taking off the top layer of dirt.

It means that cleaning is a continual process. That there is always more dirt and grime. It’s especially true in West Texas, where the wind brings in more dust than you can sweep out!

With that in mind, I read about PopSugar’s 30 Day Cleaning Challenge with a groan. But I do like the idea of getting my house really clean before putting out holiday decorations (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas). We’ve all seen a kid in a great outfit with a dirty face. Ruins the effect. So putting seasonal decorations on a less than clean coffee table is the same thing.

Here is the list from PopSugar:

I will report back on how this goes. It has taken me 3 days to do day 1, so far.

Update: Day 3 is on hold until I get new shelf liner for the pantry. Fridge is next…

But I will be happy even if I only take off the top layer of dirt!
