stay out of the way of ‘white folks’.

Today, at the funeral, in a town smaller than the town in which I work, I was the only black person in attendance.

I mentioned to my co-worker prior to us leaving that I knew I would be the only black person there, in that town that I did not know, and it did not know me. My co-worker, we have had our knockdown, drag outs, and I tell her like it is, but I am tactful. She is learning how to observe and understand.

She said to me, “well, that’s all right. We won’t be there long and I will be with you.”

For some reason, today, that felt like gold.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
