How to be a high-growth entrepreneur AND sleep

  1. Stop conditioning your team to need you. If you always answer and pickup their calls at 8pm, they will learn helplessness.
  2. Give up worrying about your team making bad decisions in your absence. Trust them. If not, address their performance (and your trust issues).
  3. For introverts, get a non-negotiable 60–90 minutes of alone time every day to recharge. More on weekends.
  4. When you’re finished working, tell your phone out loud: “You don’t own me” and throw it on your bed. Your phone doesn’t own you. Go hug your kids.
  5. Play loud music when you’re cooking or hanging out in the living room. Loud music — and your bad singing — will clear your head and bring you into the present moment.
  6. Stop thinking that everything you do must be productive or else you’re ‘being unproductive’. Get a life! Cook, read, garden, play chess, do art with your kids — your productivity will happen tomorrow, at work, remember?
  7. Go to bed. Yes, go lie in the dark — wide awake. Stay there until sleep kicks in. It’s better than lighting up your face with a device designed to keep you awake.
