Sometimes, I wonder why. No that would be a lie, I wonder why, all the time. I wonder why about a lot of things. Today I am wondering why about my website Think Positive 30.

Why am I doing this?

That is a very good question. I started out doing this for me, and for a dear, wonderful friend. You can read the story in the about section, but the abridged version is we were whiny. Our blogs were filled with negative crap, and she decided to post one positive thing a day. Why? …

Well color me disgusted, in fact, I’m actually appalled and disgusted with the dumbing down of America. We’re doing this thing at my school. We want to redesign how we’re doing things. Which sounds fantastic. Get kids involved in internships, create personal learning plans for all students. Things like that sound great, and I love the idea. We’re broken down into committees that meet to discuss the various areas we’re looking at. While I normally hate committee work, it is nice hearing the thoughts and opinions of the different teachers and basically a lot of us are on the same page. …

After the school shooting in Florida, I made the huge mistake of posting on Facebook regarding the comments President Trump made about arming teachers. I was disturbed by what he said, because I am a teacher, and I do not ever want to be armed in school. He said (and this is not a direct quote, just paraphrasing here) that teachers love their students and we should be armed we love our students, and that we’d kill to protect them. The problem with that thought process is that most school shooters are students or former students. If a student is expelled, in my mind, he or she is still my student. Could I potentially kill one of my students? No, I don’t think I could. Trained police didn’t go in to the school in Florida and start shooting. …

Regrets are a Waste of Time

When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us. — Alexander Graham Bell

Bell’s quote is very interesting to me. We’ve all heard the quote about one door closing and another opening, but Bell’s quote to me is talking about regrets. Regrets are a waste of time. Seriously. Don’t do it.

Decisions are hard and choices can be scary. Even the simplest choice like should I have chocolate ice cream or cookie dough can be a big one. Why? Because you get caught up in the fear of making the wrong choice and then come the regrets. No matter how good that chocolate ice cream may be, all you can think about is how you should have had the cookie dough. …

The path to success is to take massive, determined action.~ Anthony Robbins

I was actually going to title this post “Don’t Half-Ass it,” but I decided to be a little more politically correct and say if you’re going to do it, do it! What do I mean by that? It’s pretty simple. If you’re going to commit to something, you have to put forth all your effort. Not some, but all. That’s the only way you’re going to succeed.

Now, I’m not going to lie to you and say I do this all the time. I don’t. I’m actually a pretty laid back, lazy kind of person. It’s not a great thing, but it’s a thing. I tend to go with the flow on a lot of things. …

Challenges are Gifts

Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Don’t fight them. Just find a different way to stand. — Oprah Winfrey

Challenges are gifts? Yes, I suppose when you look at them the right way they are. For me challenges mean change, and change is something I struggle with. I think a lot of people do. When there is change, there is fear of the unknown. We need to try and look at it differently.

In the bible there is a verse that says God doesn’t give you challenges you can’t handle. At first when I was thinking about that, and today’s quote, I was up in arms and totally disagreeing. …

Look on the bright side

For everything you have missed, you have gained something else.- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I always try to look on the bright side of things. I don’t always succeed, but I do always try. If I’m going to be perfectly honest, it’s easy to look at what has gone wrong rather than what has gone right. I know it is for me. I think it is for other people too.

I wish I knew why it was like this, I bet if I could figure it out, and figure out a way to change it, I’d be a millionaire. A couple of years ago, I made the decision to start looking for a new car. When I was done researching, my plan was to give my old vehicle to my son, who was driving the minivan I got when my kids were 6. He was 22 at that point, so it was time. Well one day, on his way to work, he got hit by a person who ran a red light because they were taking a sip from their water bottle. Thankfully nobody was hurt, but it was the end of the line for Spike the minivan. Yes my van’s name was Spike. …

Don’t wait for it, make it happen!

The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them. — George Bernard Shaw

If you want something to happen, you can just sit there. Don’t wait for it to happen, make it happen. The chances of anybody just handing something to you are pretty slim. Opportunities aren’t just handed out like candy. You have to look for them. Push forward and search out the opportunities you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for a job, do you sit in your living room waiting for someone to call and say “Hey, we have a job. Are you interested?” Probably not, and if you are, you’re probably not going to find anything. No, if you want a job, you search the want ads and job boards, you network and you send out resumes. But what happens if all your searching gets you nothing, then what? …
