3 Ingredients for Clean Clothes

Founder of The Simply Co. and Trash is for Tossers, Lauren Singer.

Combining do-it-yourself crafts and a devotion to living chemical free, Lauren Singer’s company The Simply Co. allows her to share her passion with like-minded consumers. A three ingredient laundry detergent that comes in lavender and unscented, The Simply Co. is an all organic cleaning product that cuts out unnecessary chemicals. Having raised over $40,000 through KickStarter, Singer’s product hasn’t even hit shelves yet and there is already an overwhelming demand.

Surpassing what she hoped to raise via KickStarter, Singer now has more pre-orders than she expected and up to 100,000 hits on her personal blog Trash is for Tossers. “Originally I planned on making and packaging the detergent in my kitchen. Now I have to make 1,000 boxes of detergent and work with an outside packager.”

The 23 year old entrepreneur has been living a chemical free, waste conscious lifestyle for over two years. From razor blades to shopping all organic, Singer tries to embody what her company represents. Her personal blog chronicles how she lives a waste free lifestyle and offers advice on how to limit waste production. The Simply Co. laundry detergent is one of the many DIY remedies Singer has personally developed to limit waste.

The Simply Co. laundry detergent is made of baking soda, washing soda and castile soap — the only three ingredients Singer deems are necessary to clean clothes properly. By using just these three ingredients, she is able to limit exposure to unnecessary chemicals and toxins.“I like to think of myself as not trying to be better, but starting with a product that is foundationally good,” Singer explains. Even down to the packaging Singer chose, every component of her product is 100% plastic free and chemical free.

“I think people have the right to use products that are free of toxic chemicals and I think those products should be available and easily accessible.” With The Simply Co. laundry detergent, her DIY Youtube channel and her blog, Singer hopes that people will see how easy it is to live a chemical free waste free lifestyle.
