Ingestion of cow ghee is incredibly beneficial to the health of all age groups, reduces inflammation in the joints, bestow rich dietary fats and double duty nutrition, improve eye health and reinforce the immune system. But the effectiveness of its results depends on its purity and when it comes to cow ghee, the adulteration becomes easier. Ghee is easily alterable with coconut oil, rancid ghee, sweet potato and vegetable oil.

Trick #1

Testing Through Melting Process

The easiest way is to take a spoon of cow ghee, put it in your palm and observe if for 5 seconds if it starts melting on its own it is pure.

Trick #2

Testing Through Color Change Process

Take a sample of cow ghee and heat it up. If it melts quickly and turns dark brownish color then it is pure and on the other hand if it takes longer and still appears in same yellow color as it was before heating then undoubtedly it is impure ghee.

Trick #3

Testing Through Concentrated HCI And Sugar

Take a test tube, put a little amount of cow ghee in it and heat it up, after a couple of seconds, add a pinch of concentrated HCI (acid used for the digestion of food) and sugar. Mix it up well and wait for few minutes. If you observe that crimson color in the lower acid layer, it confirms that the ghee is adulterated with Vanaspati oil.

Trick #4

Testing Through Iodine Solution

Take a small amount of cow ghee in a vessel and melt it and after 5 seconds add a few drops of iodine solution. If the color of iodine solution changes from brown to purple, the ghee is adulterated with sweet potato.

Trick #5

Testing With Hydrochloric Acid And Ether Solution

Melt a little amount of ghee in a test tube and add 5ml of hydrochloric acid and 5ml of the ether solution of phloroglucinol in it. After 10 minutes if you notice a pink or red color layer at the bottom, it means cow ghee is adulterated with rancid ghee.

To keep yourself on the safe side you can prepare pure desi ghee at home. In order to make pure desi cow ghee, the milk itself needs to be pure. After accumulating cream for a couple of days, grind it in a mixer that will separate the butter and this collected butter needs to be heated up until the solid turns into light brown color, filter it using a sieve, it separates that brown solids from the pure desi ghee. And now it is ready.

If you consider buying it from the third source rather than preparing it on your own then make sure you get it from a reliable Cow Ghee Supplier who follows the strict quality standards and provides the 100% pure desi cow ghee.
