How to find a job at a broker in Cyprus

This article is for those of you looking for job opportunities and open to starting a career at a Cyprus-based broker.

Why Cyprus

Cyprus is a popular island thanks to its climate and infrastructure. It’s also one of financial centers of Europe and many forex brokers have their headquarters here. All those brokers are regularly looking for qualified staff with a passion for trading who would like to take a look at the institutional side of the business. Since we know a lot of brokers we have asked our friends working in Cyprus to tell us which qualifications are beneficial to finding a job and becoming a member of a Cyprus Investment Firm (CIF).

What you need to know before you apply for a position

First of all, you need to have at least a basic understanding of the forex market. Then of course you need specific knowledge and preferably some previous experience in a similar position to the one you are applying for. And finally, starting from the 3rd of January 2018 all CIF staff speaking to clients on behalf of their company need to have an appropriate qualification. It means that you need to pass the CySEC examination and appear in the CySEC register of qualified experts. This is your lucky ticket and a green light for your career.

How to pass the CySEC examination

To pass the exam you need to study, e.g. take an online or offline course that teaches the essential knowledge needed for the exam. There are a couple of companies that provide you with such opportunity and give you out a lot of materials for self studying, including books, dvds and some mock exams to test your readiness. For those of you who are serious about new career opportunities and want to increase their chances to pass the CySEC examination, we’ve collected exam questions from previous examinations and you can practice and pass them as many times as you want. Once you feel that you are ready you should fill in the registration form and choose a date for your exam (takes place every Tuesday). In order to pass your exam you’ll have to answer 50 multiple choice questions for the Basic level and 70 multiple choice questions for the Advanced level and 70% of your answers must be correct. At the day of your examination you’ll be told when you can expect the results. If you succeeded with the examination, you’ll receive a congratulations email from CySEC and in a couple of weeks you’ll appear in the register.
