3 ways for me to be mentally healthy
We often talk about health, and I think that it is essential to our life. As far as I know, there are physical health, mental health, and spiritual health. In this writing, I focus on sharing my experience to improve my mental health.
1. Be selfish — Put yourself as your priority
Being loved and cherished makes it easier for you to spread the love. Thus, focus your energy and warmth on those who mean the most. When you are satisfied and fulfilled with pleasure, you can feel love and pass it on. Sounds super positive, right?
However, sometimes you “crave” for receiving attention and love from a person, the balance in your heart breaks. You get stuck and feel desperate. Understand this: There’s nothing wrong with high demand for love, but we can direct it to another target. For example nature, your hobby, your family can be the ones, and then the balance will be established again.
Remember that you are always loved, at least by yourself. Love in life is like blood circulation in our body. If blood stops circulating, it got stuck, the person is in huge trouble. Be kind to yourself, let love work properly. Don’t get your love stuck with the only person. Then everything will be fine. You give love and receive love again.
2. Be present — Right here, right now
I know that everyone talks about the present instead of mentioning the past or the future. But what is the present? How do you feel it? If you are communicating with a person, look at them, listen carefully to what they are saying. Feel it with all your senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell. Of course, the hearing sense is prominent. I have the feeling that if we can use all the senses, there will be more connection in the conversation. It’s good to do so, but do not let yourself be distracted by the others rather than hearing. Also, we can use the sixth sometimes, and it does enhance the bonds between people.
If you are working in a room, notice the room arrangement first. And then be aware of yourself, what you are doing, your physical status, your feeling, the existence of every single cell that make up You. Well, do not let the train of thoughts drive you somewhere far away. Think of your work, and again be present with it instead of wandering in your imagination. Sounds like “It is easier said than done” but we need to train our brain gradually. Awareness of that progress is necessary, but to be sufficient, we should put it into practice.
3. Be responsible
Discipline is hard to follow, but if we change the way we interpret it, things are more relaxed than our thought. You will feel happy to be a responsible person, to yourself and the other. It is not a burden, and it is your choice to be fulfilled, to be proud of yourself. When you can match yourself with the image of a responsible person, you will have more motivation to keep moving. Take small steps first, then bigger ones. Yes, as long as you make the very first step, you will never be beaten by the feeling of guilt. At least, you try, and you will not waste time to regret what you have done.
Well, there should be more than those above ways to keep our mental health in good condition. But as I am an absent-minded person, I would like to keep it simple. The fewer things we have, the more we value them. Share with me yours, if any!
