Even though I believe this to be a rhetorical question I am interested in sharing my view.
Recently someone pointed this MLK letter out to me.
Reading it was profound, and eye opening. So much is still true today. Negative views of civil disobedience continue to be promoted by the media, and by “white” moderates. Not to mention the shaming by anyone who doesn’t understand why it is critical to political discourse.
Truly tackling racism and oppression will mean a complete dismantling by the oppressors themselves. That is if we seek the peaceful route. Why does it rest on the shoulders of the oppressors? Without their participation in a revolutionary shift of the meaning of love, then the cycle will just continue. We don’t need everyone, but we must have a critical mass.
In many ways this critical mass is available right now. They are accessible right here. If you read my words, and still want to denigrate people practising civil disobedience, then PLEASE read Dr. King’s letter.
