When we think about how leadership comes into play in our lives, it truly transcends all facets of our lives: family, community and work. The question is, can you really balance these leadership roles? Some say yes, some say no. I was CEO of a language service provider for almost 10 years and it was a constant struggle to manage my family and work roles. I believe the reason some say yes and some say no, isn’t because the answer is a universal truth, it is because it is a personal truth. We all need to know what our personal truth is and be sure we are honoring that truth. After struggling way too long and not listening to my heart, I decided to make a change. I explained to my business partner that I could no longer manage my responsibilities to the company and my family in a way that I felt each of them deserved. Consequently, I resigned as an active member in the LLC.

What have I learned in the last 12 months is that I was not listening to my heart.

Through meditation, listening and questioning where I am, where I am going and where I truly want to be, I find that each day I am closer to transforming into the leader I want to be and not the leader someone else wants me to be. I think a lot of us have been through this or are going through this inner struggle. Is your path yours or is it someone else’s…one that your parent, boss, spouse, friend, etc. has encouraged you to take?

I encourage you to dig deep to find what resonates with you and hope you find the courage to pursue your personal truth.
