Why Typography Matters — Especially At The Oscars

This is a load of pointless, self-aggrandising horseshit. There’s nothing wrong with what is written on the original cards, as every other category being read correctly shows.

The Best Picture award is always presented to the producers of the film. Not the director. Definitely not the actors. Why then, would the Best Picture card list the name of the film along with the name of only one of its leading actors? Last year Spotlight was not announced as “Michael Keaton, Spotlight”. The year before Birdman was not announced as “Emma Stone, Birdman”.

Warren Beatty clearly knew something was up. The error is not in either the wording or the design of the card. The error is down to the individual who gave Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong card and Dunaway jumping the gun and announcing La La Land without questioning something which was obviously wrong.
