The Rs. 605.59cr airport is the Northeast’s first greenfield airport and, keeping in mind the 4,500 feet altitude at which it is located, has been skilfully engineered to include
slope stabilization and soil reinforcement techniques.

Before this the tourists flying to Sikkim by air had to fly to Bagdogra and cover about 128 kms (4 hours) by road to raeach the city.

Sikkim’s airport will improve connectivity, benefiting the people of the state and will boost tourism. All sections of people would be able to use the airport as the fares would be less than Rs 2,500 under the UDAN scheme. Budget traveller and backpackers would surely go crazy reading this!
