The Arlington Memorial Bridge, or North-South Reconciliation Bridge, connects Washington DC with its suburbs, Arlington, Virginia. On two opposite banks of the Potomac River there is a memorial dedicated to the 16th President of the United States, the commander-in-chief of the northerners, Abraham Lincoln, on the other - the Arlington house of the Confederate Army General (southerners) Robert Lee. This arrangement symbolically reflects the reconciliation of North and South in the Civil War, which was unleashed between the union of 20 non-slave states and 4 slave states of the North with 11 slave states of the South, and lasted from 1861 to 1865. During the Civil War of the North and South, about 2 thousand battles took place. More US citizens have died in this war than in any other war in which the US has been involved.
