Mini Shark Tank Presentation
8/5/17 — Mini Shark Tank Presentation
I thought my startup was just an “okay” idea. To test the waters, I preemptively planned to do a “Shark Tank” presentation at my nephew’s birthday party without asking for permission to do so. Prior to the presentation, I had a conference call with Matt. He clearly stated that my idea of a traveling toolbox was a 5/10 and that it was pointless because backpacks served the same purpose. Thus, I was motivated not only to prove him wrong, but to also impress my family. Before we left, I made sure to bring all the things for the presentation: I brought my laptop, backpack, and traveling toolbox (which contained Bluetooth speakers, wallet, portable charger, charging cords, post-its, book, and a few other small things).
Once my family and I arrived at the party, we ate after saying “hi” to all family members. As I ate, I played music from Calvin Harris as it was requested by my cousin’s family friends. I conversed with them and mentioned I was going to do a more formal presentation at 7:30pm. As the time ticked near the starting time, I was rushing to set up the living room into a presentation room. The clock hit 7:30pm. Then it started, my moment to pitch my startup. I was nervous yet relieved, since it was just family. The presentation went by fast, I could not believe I talked for 25 minutes. Next was a Q&A portion, where I learned the areas I needed to improve on regarding my startup. At the end of the Q&A, I asked my family members to rate my presentation and to leave any feedback. I had not read any of the comments until a day later, but I could tell during and after the presentation that it was a success. I felt positive vibes that signaled that the startup would be successful as long as I kept my passion and drive for Traveling Toolbox.
