Richmond Park, in the London area of upon River Thames, is the biggest of London’s regal parks, and plays a vital role in nature and wildlife conservation. It was the brainchild of Charles I in the 17th century and was named as a deer park. It is currently a nationwide nature preserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation and is included, at Grade I, on Historic England’s Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England. Its setting has been the source of inspiration for many well-known artists and many movies and soap operas have been shot here.

Between 1833 and 1842 there was a major change. The Petersham Lodge estate, the then section of Sudbrook Park, was integrated into Richmond Park. Terrace Walk was formed from Richmond Gate to Pembroke Lodge. The Russell School was built in close proximity to Petersham Gate in 1851. Between 1855 and 1861, a new drainage system was created, which made water available for deer. In 1867 and 1876 fallow deer from the park were sent to New Zealand to help build up stocks — the first fallow deer introduced to that country. In the beginning of the 20th century, a golf course was created on the previous “Great Paddock” of Richmond Park, a region used to feed deer for the royal hunt. . A golf course for public recreation was set up in 1923 by Edward, Prince of Wales.

Richmond Park encompasses architectural or historic buildings which are major tourist attractions. It is the most visited regal park away from central London, with about 4.4 million visitors recorded in 2014. it is mainly because of the amenities of the park. Some of the popular activities in the park are cycling, fishing, playing golf, horse riding, playing rugby, running etc. There are playgrounds located at Kingston Gate and Petersham Gate. They are planned for kids. The Friends of Richmond Park was established in 1961 to shield the open space area.
