Basilica of Our Lady Dolours
Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours (Puthan Pally) has the distinction of evidently being the largest and tallest church in Asia. This stately Gothic style church lies in the heart of the town of Thrissur in Kerala. The church sprawls across an area of 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2) and is a striking building with its towering belfries at the entry, double-storied aisles all along the nave and transepts, and eleven altars, (one main altar with five flanking it on either side). The interiors are beautiful with murals, depictions of scenes from the scriptures and images of saints.
Not only is the Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours a revered pilgrimage spot, but thanks to its elegance and beauty, and its sheer size, it is a popular tourist spot as well.
