Even so, nothing is currently done to make sure hosts actually comply with safety guidelines

My sympathies for losing your dad in such a senseless accident, and the terrible ordeal you’ve been through. But I wonder: what safety regulation would have prevented the accident?

Most safety rules deal with fire hazards, accessibility, and home safety. I can’t foresee a single one which would force someone to clear every tree on their property for a swing. Or, for that matter, every electronic device in the house against electrocution, etc. The sad fact is, this terrible thing could have happened anywhere, anytime — regardless of the “AirBnB-ity” of the situation.

While I agree with the general notion of your article — having sharing startups take more responsibility — I fail to see how that would have prevented your dad’s accident.
