A CARBONATED ROAD TRIP

ABOUT US

We’ve been relatively quiet since founding Carbonated in 2015, as we’ve been heads down building our team and tech (as you do).

But as passionate developers and with GDC right around the corner, it feels like the right time to open up a bit more about what we’re up to.

We’re a bunch of highly experienced game devs, who frankly, started the company to get close to customers again. So… with a customer-first culture in mind, we’re focusing on mobile free-to-play (lowering the barrier of entry to players everywhere) and high cadence live ops (quickly reacting to customers).

THE GAME

We love hardcore games with real time multiplayer and deep metagame and mastery, that you can play on mobile or PC. But there wasn’t anything out there that was easy to play and had short sessions (after all, some of us are over 40).

Given that, we decided to build a game set in a dystopian present. We’ve got squad based mechanics, real time pvp, RPG character progression, and much more. All of it wrapped in a highly social elder game (territory, alliances, the works).

We’ve already started to get close to our customers by building up our community (that are part of “The First Clan” secret society)… turns out there’s other people out there that like what we like!

Our game is ambitious — there simply wasn’t a way for a team of our size to build it without lots of money or lots of help!

AMAZON BOOTH AT GDC

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be showing off HOW we’re delivering on this game at GDC. You’ll find some of us in the Amazon booth. Why will you find us there?

We’ve known the Amazon Game Tech team for some time, and we’re using a bunch of their services for game developers, including Amazon Lumberyard and Amazon GameLift to punch way above our weight. Hopefully we’re a useful example to see how a small team can pull off something ambitious to compete with experiences typically delivered by much larger studios. The folks at Amazon have already gone above and beyond… They don’t just want us to use their services, they really want to see our game launch and be successful.

“Amazon loves working with ambitious game developers of all sizes. We’re excited when we can help smaller teams of industry vets like Carbonated Games leverage Amazon tools and technology that are already used by 90 percent of the world’s biggest gaming companies,” said Brian Taptich, Vice President, Amazon Game Tech. “Carbonated Games is using Amazon Game Tech including the Amazon Lumberyard game engine to build a high-performance, high-fidelity mobile experience, and we’re excited to host them in our booth at GDC this year.”

SEE YOU THERE!

While we haven’t officially announced the game yet… if you want to take a sneak peak, you can find us at the front of the Amazon booth.

Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, an invite-only experience can be found in the roving Carbonated RV. Why an RV? We’re not method actors… we’re method developers.
