Leon looking at an open treasure chest

With Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom brought back cherished moments and elements from the original — treasure hunting included.

Like the original, there are hidden treasures aplenty to finance Leon’s expensive arsenal of weaponry. Lucky for you, this guide will show you where all these treasures are, as well as the best gem combinations to use.

This guide will only cover the 39 treasures from the base game, since they’re the ones needed for the Banditachievement — that’s not to say that they’re the only treasures you can find in the Village, though.

More on that in a sec.

So, get your file ready, follow along, and never be short on pesetas again!

Treasure Drops from Enemies and Containers

Leon Standing over a dead Chainsaw Ganado

Treasures don’t always come from a hidden bell or treasure chest — some enemies always drop a treasure when they die, while others have a small chance to drop them. Barrels and crates also have a small chance for treasures.

Emerald — Emeralds are dropped by every chainsaw ganado in the village, as well as all Brutes in chapters 5 & 6.

Ruby — Rubies have a small chance to be dropped by regular ganados.

Velvet Blue — Velvet blues are dropped by brutes during chapters 1–4. They also have a small chance to be dropped by crows and smashable containers.

Spinel — Spinels have a small chance to be in smashable containers.

Those are all the extra treasures you can get for killing ganados and smashing crates in the village.

Trading Spinels for Treasure

The Merchant’s Shop

It seems counterintuitive to buy treasures but trust me on this. The treasures that the merchant offers can get you over 20,000 extra pesetas — you just have to do a couple of merchant requests.

Yellow Diamond — Available for 3 spinels as soon as you meet the merchant in chapter 2

Elegant Mask — Available for 2 spinels upon reaching chapter 4

Red Beryl — Available for 4 spinels upon reaching chapter 4

Be sure to buy all of these when you can — You’ll figure out how to get the most money out of these at the end of the guide.

High-Value Bonus Treasures

Close-up of Mendez’s False Eye

Certain points of the village give you the opportunity for extra treasures that won’t show up on your map. Some are hidden and some are rewarded for killing bosses.

Sapphire / Quarry / Chapter 3 — After passing the church in chapter 3 and walking along the wooden plank path, you’ll reach a wide-open quarry with a murder of crows sitting in the center. Throwing a flash grenade at the group kills them all, including one crow that drops a sapphire.

Gold Chicken Egg — Lake — Chapter 4 — During chapter 4, you can find a merchant request for a gold chicken egg. To find the egg, take a boat to the northern-most island on the lake. The egg is laying on the ground at the back of the small island.

Yellow Diamond / Quarry / Chapter 4 — Dropped upon killing el gigante.

Alexandrite / Chief’s Manor & Village Square / Chapter 4 — During chapter 5, you can get the merchant request “A Savage Mutt.” Which has you pursue a high-threat version of the colmillos, which drops the alexandrite.

Sapphire / Checkpoint / Chapter 6 — Dropped by the chainsaw-wielding Bella sister who doesn’t have the checkpoint crank.

Mendez’s False Eye / Slaughterhouse / Chapter 6 — Dropped by Chief Mendez after killing him.

Grab these treasures when you can — some of them are only available for a short amount of time after they drop.

With all the unmarked treasures covered, it’s time to look at the bulk of treasures you’ll be finding throughout the village, as well as the key items needed to get them.

The Best Gem Combinations

You’re probably going to want to sell these treasures as you find them, but sometimes it’s best to wait until you have the right gem combination to get the most money possible.

With all the treasures in this guide you should have:

  • 6+ Rubies
  • 5 Sapphires
  • 5 Yellow Diamonds
  • 6 Emeralds
  • 3 Alexandrites
  • 1 Red Beryl

You can always choose to save some for the rest of the game, but if you want to sell your treasures while still in the village, here’s the best way to inlay your gems.

Elegant Mask (2) / Yellow-Red-Blue / 24,700 Pesetas

Flagon / Blue-Red / 12,100 Pesetas

Butterfly Lamp / Yellow-Yellow-Yellow / 37,800 Pesetas

Elegant Bangle / Blue-Blue / 15,600 Pesetas

Splendid Bangle / Purple-Purple / 19,200 Pesetas

Chalice of Atonement / Green-Purple-Red / 35,100 Pesetas

These combinations should leave you with an abundance of leftover Emeralds and Rubies, which you can save for the treasures in the Castle.

A big improvement with the remake is that you can do any combination you want, so there technically isn’t a wrong way to do it — as long as you can afford your next tune-up that is.
