Thoughts on Empathy in Social Media
Andrew Watts

Emojis and stickers breech the language barrier. I consistently saw it in Asia and definitively international cities. Remote expression of emotion came through clearly (albeit dramatically).

The tradeoff was an entire new set of potential miscommunications and confusion as cultures and languages jumped through previous barriers and timelines of integration. Users find middle ground, identify consistency, experiment with more complex expressions, and the ecosystem evolves.
