Market logic is incompatible with citizenship and creates no clear incentive to architect ethical principles into tech beyond our understanding.

Increasingly, we can understand only inputs and outputs/outcomes. The complex mechanisms and algorithms in-between require ethical principles in the input phase, rather than reacting to outcomes. We set standards for investment, for labor equality, and other areas of critical business operation. Tech needs the same legal/ethical foundation to govern approach and intent without killing the experimental creativity.

Perhaps a Hippocratic oath for engineers and social technologists?
