Down the Rabbit Hole
“The Journey Before the Journey”
The wait is over…

It is hard to believe I began this journey over two years ago. Harder to believe than the day is finally here! In January, when I accepted my assignment to Lesotho, Africa…it seemed soooo far away. Not only was I traveling to a mountainous kingdom, I had mountains of paperwork and medical tests to complete. Every task completed drew a sigh of relief and a step closer to the “go” mark on the board. Wellll the “go” is tomorrow. Leaving Indianapolis at 7:00 a.m. Although the map above lists me as Ohio, where I have been living for the last 8 months, I really am a Hoosier girl, all Indiana, proud supporter of that black and gold team and school Purdue. This blog is all new to me so please be patient. I am still learning. Technology and getting around strange places on land or in a computer is a struggle, BUT…I usually get where I am going…eventually. I have spent the last 4 weeks saying good bye to family and friends. During my 4,000 mile journey, costing $800 in gasoline and traveling through 16 states, I have; sat in lava heated cave tubs, whitewater rafted-twice, gone on various interesting hikes, tree surfed (next new Olympic sport), got 2 massages (never can have too many), ran over a suicidal armadillo, ate the best hamburger ever! (16 ounces-longhorn steer-big as pie plate-shared with youngest son Rhett), tasted a variety of different food (even Africa-although I am sure I will have plenty over the next two years), shared homemade moonshine and 4 varieties of peanut butter, kayak, sailed, laughed, got skunked in euchre (that is embarrassing), beat son repeatedly in ladderball, and even jumped from a train track to the river 20 feet below. Seemed better than the alternative, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid has nothing on AJ and I. As my adventure in the US ends another begins…Next posting will be from Africa. I hope you will follow in my journey and ask any questions you may have. I will answer honestly, or make up something that sounds interesting. Tracy
