Outlook 2011 (OLM) to Thunderbird Seamless Migration Method
Outlook 2011 to Thunderbird is never seamless, unless you know some professional third party that has the ability to make it effortless and thorough. “Olm Extrctor Pro” is such a tool.
Outlook 2011 to Thunderbird migration is when you want to move your Outlook contacts, emails, and calendar data into Thunderbird. Both are excellent email clients but some reason sometimes users wish to move to Thunderbird. Or in many other cases, users use both email clients and they wish to transfer some of their emails and contacts folder to Thunderbird.
The only obstacle facing them is the difference in their file formats that store the information. Olm is only for Mac Outlook 2011 and Thunderbird uses a different format, which is Mbox. Mbox is a generic term for a group of file formats used for storing electronic mail messages.. All messages in an mbox mailbox are concatenated and stored as plain text in a single file.
And, when last week, I had this issue come up in front of me, I had no idea about all of this. I didn’t know what an Mbox file or Olm file is. Or that these clients even used both of these file formats. So the question of which solution works for migration was completely foreign to me.
Luckily, there is Google to answer your questions. And with a little bit of time, you can find out anything. Of course, there are few fake answers that don’t help anybody, but you can find out what has worked for others and what might work for you with a little bit of research.
For me, the solution I thought might was “Olm Extractor Pro”. I read some of the reviews and testimonials and was hooked. It was then when I actually got aware of these file formats and what to do with them.
Luckily, it wasn’t me who had to do anything with these file formats. It was the tool itself that automatically converts Olm files to Mbox files and you can easily migrate all of your contacts, calendar data, and emails from Outlook 2011 to Thunderbird.
So, this is how the tool works.
You install it and launch it from your “applications” in Mac. Then, you load your Olm files into it. Click “Add Olm” at the top of its interface and go to the drive where Olm files are stored and select them. The tool will scan the files thoroughly, presenting you with all the content inside the files. You can choose the folders you want to convert.
Next, specify some of the additional options that are given related to the contacts and calendar data. And then choose the output format, which in this case is Thunderbird.
“Olm Extractor Pro” offers other multiple output formats, such as Apple Mail,Thunderbird, Entourage, Mbox, Eml etc.
After choosing your desired output format, click “Convert”. This will generate the output converted files.
I was extremely happy with the way this tool worked. There wasn’t a single thing that I didn’t find easy to do. The graphical wizard and the instructions were simple to follow, and everything flowed naturally.
