Apple will end up wining this battle, and Spotify will be just another useless app taking up valuable space on your smartphone (see: Pandora). Before Apple Music existed, I paid the $9.99 Spotify subscription fee and loved it. However, when Apple Music launched, they were offering FREE unlimited streaming for 3 full months. Translation: I could still get any song I wanted for 90 days and not have to pay $30 to do so. Plus, as artists like Drake, The 1975, and Taylor Swift began to sign exclusive deals with Apple, I just couldn’t justify giving Spotify $10 a month for an inferior product.
