On paper, the Ravens offensive skill position players make sense. They have a strong armed QB who loves to throw the deep ball, and WR’s who can stretch the field. The game plan heading into this season was for Flacco to chuck it deep to Wallace, Smith, and Perriman…the same way the Steelers attack defenses in their offensive scheme. The problem for the Ravens is their offensive line is garbage, which doesn’t give the WR’s enough time to get down the field or for Flacco to get rid of the ball. When the offensive line can’t hold off a pass rush, you can’t stretch the field. The Ravens would be better off with possession receivers who run precise short routes and are sure-handed pass catchers. They would benefit from turning back the clock and bringing on Derrick Mason or Anquan Boldin who are nice pieces to have when your offensive line can’t block. The guys they have now, only know how to go deep…nothing else.
