Q1: There are only a few people in your life that hold that type of psychological environment over you and can change it:

Your family, your friends, and your work.

For me it was the last one that caused a significant change in my psychological environment. I ended up leaving, but the daily stress and unnerving feeling I had made the rest of the year unbearable. Walking up to the school every morning made me feel sick to my stomach. Even after leaving that feeling creeps back, even though I know I am valued at my new school. I couldn’t imagine being stuck somewhere for years on end with that type of gut-wrenching feeling everyday.

Q2: Everyone is definitely a product of their environment.

If you say to your child you are going to college everyday, or that they are smart, or that they are loved. They express that feeling to others, they see it as reality. For my sister and I, it was always that you are going to college. It was never, you might go to college. Our parents pushed us to be better everyday, their perceptions shaped our future.
