IT’S SeO IMPORTANT.
[A BEGINNERS GUIDE TO SEO]
WHAT IS SEO?
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation in its simplest form, is optimizing a website to allow search engines to easily understand the site’s structure, intent, and content.
So, why does SEO matter? If done correctly, it is more likely for your target user to find your site organically when searching for their needs. Sounds easy right? It is, and it isn’t. Simple SEO is not rocket science, but it is a time-consuming task. Even after you fix issues on-site, research and select keywords, claim your business on Google, build backlinks, and generated quality content (don’t worry we’ll cover all of this later) your SEO campaign requires constant attention to produce and maintain desired results.
SEO differs from pay-per-click (PPC) advertising with a program such as Google Ads. SEO helps websites appear organically in search engines. PPC Ads are paid ads for your site that will appear in the ads section of the search engine. While this can provide results quickly, it is not necessarily a long term strategy for budget-minded businesses, and it won’t directly improve your organic rankings. Although SEO doesn’t typically yield instant results, it is a sound investment to aid in your website’s growth.
FINDING YOUR WAY
Often when working with someone on their website design we hear the question, “How can I get my site to rank better on Google?”.
The need for a strong web presence is greater than ever for businesses, but achieving desired results can be overwhelming. When initially researching ways to improve Google rankings you’ll find varying recommendations on strategy and a plethora of agencies offering their services. With so much information to navigate it is easy to lose focus or become confused.
During your quest for improved rankings, it is crucial to set attainable goals while creating your SEO strategy. If you’re a small business that makes and sells handbags, you can’t expect to compete with a large company like Kate Spade. You can, however, improve your local search ranking or even find a niche market nationally where the competition isn’t as fierce. The goal of this series is to equip the everyday business owner with the necessary tools and strategies to begin improving their ranking. Whether choosing to run your campaign or hire an agency, it’s important to understand the basics of SEO. If you have no level of knowledge, hiring an agency can leave you open to receiving questionable services that can damage your rankings.
If you decide to hire an SEO company to increase search engine rankings, a basic level of education on the subject can save you many headaches. With such information, you’ll be more capable of weeding out agencies that are creating poorly optimized content, generating toxic backlinks, and setting unrealistic expectations for you, the client. Additionally, you can avoid unnecessary spending on SEO services that may not be suited for your business. We believe your spend should be dependent on the return on investment that your business could receive from your efforts. For a realtor, just one click that gains a client can make a sizeable monthly SEO spend justified, but for a local coffee shop, it doesn’t make sense to spend $1,000 a month to sell a few more cups of coffee.
ALL THE MOVING PARTS
Successful SEO is an intricate dance involving many partners. Often during this dance, the UI/UX (User Interface/User Experience) is negatively affected. These two types of design function hand-in-hand to deliver, what is hopefully, a pleasant experience for the user. In short, UI Design is the look and presentation of the site, and UX Design is the development of the interactions the user experiences. The goal is to become visible to users through the use of various SEO elements (such as keywords and backlinks) and retain them with engaging content accompanied by an enjoyable UI/UX design. A poor SEO campaign can damage your UI/UX and your brand. You’ve probably visited sites riddled with keyword stuffed content, annoying push notifications, and clickbait. Sometimes this is purposeful. Sometimes it’s because of poor decisions when hiring someone to increase SEO.
Google’s algorithms are frequently shifting, which means that the world of SEO is rapidly evolving. Staying up to date with these trends can be challenging and time-consuming. While tracking shifts is essential, implementing sound strategies can provide long term success and prove less trying than a quest for Google’s magical unicorn. If implemented and maintained successfully, SEO is an investment that can yield great results over time.
