So deconstruct it. Why did you bother to respond at all if you were just going pretend that this person is ignorant and gets their messaging elsewhere. I read his writings and responses and he includes quite a bit of information. And I don’t think he got it from under a rock.

Do you not think that it is possible that your view is the simplistic one. The view that we should not feed terror the spotlight. Do you not think that ignoring crazy people might just make them crazier. I know when people don’t listen to me it makes me incredibly frustrated. The occasionally attack and news reports probably has the inverse effect. Releasing a pressure valve on the cooking pot of Islam and delaying further action. Though neither is likely true as the religion/ideology/culture that gives rise to these actions isn’t like Santa Claus. It doesn’t need us to believe in it for it to be real. So if we pretend it isn’t there it doesn’t just go away.

If you dissect some of the commentary you can see that Penseur mentions that we don’t want to just kill all 1.2 billion Muslims, and that he is not himself religious. What I gather from that is that Penseur would be perfectly happy with all “Muslims” if those same people became secular or adopted a non-invasive religion. Or even if they truly managed to redefine that religion to be one of peace. Like Mormons minimized polygamy and like black people in their church.

So while Penseurs narrative seems focused on dragging deniers into the light so they can see what the foundation of Islam is, I don’t think that you can characterize him as a mouth breather. If you don’t believe that there is any truth to his commentary, dissect it. I’m really curious, what exactly is he wrong about?

I personally think that when you turn your back on an angry mob you are going to get stabbed in the back. I don’t think they are somehow going to get less angry.

I can follow the idea that we should not polarize people and place the on either side. But I think that the way to do that is to attempt to locate and help the secular elements in Muslim countries and communities and help them become the majority. As these are our friends first before any Muslim that has an interest in Sharia law, violent or not. I think that it is safe to say that there is no 1st world without the separation of church and state. And that defending that separation around the world is our best chance of keeping peoples meta-physical belief systems from degrading our quality of life and societal structures.
