As for two parents being a necessity, it would be a very relative societal norm. Single parents aren’t uncommon in many areas of the U.S. and my mother was a single parent (not by choice) for quite some time. She has more than enough love to share for me to have ever noticed or felt anything was missing during those times.
I would much rather be raised by a very loving and capable single parent than to have parents forced to stay together just to be miserable and never be emotionally or mentally present. Obviously because they would be lousy parents and would provide a sad existence for a childhood. If they can stay together and be happy more power to the parents.
My mother being a single mother never lead to any sort of dependency. As a part black 25 years old Millennial who was raised by a single mother most my childhood, I can provide for myself just fine and have been doing so since I moved 400 miles away from my parent’s home 6 years ago.
I would safely bet that I am not the only one either. I would also safely bet that there’s a good chunk of people with similar backgrounds as mine who are dependent, whether it be of the government or their family. That can’t be attributed to only one part in the way someone’s raised and every dependency has a different story to it.
Not all of them choose to be in such a position or wanted to be dependent. Not all of them are fully dependent as some just need a little assistance to get by until better times. At the same time there are those who truly choose to live in such a way and are unfortunately content with a helpless existence.
We can’t paint broad pictures that depicts a sweeping generalization of certain groups or types of people. That’s how these falsely accused and overly exaggerated narratives about societal groups are created and begin to form disdain and animosity between groups.
It just becomes a false image of certain people leaving space for falsely bias stereotypes to be come about. It’s not just one group doing this neither, it’s a majority of society doing this with the media to drive it in deeper.
