I am not sure if I understand the point of this article with absolute clarity as it could have gone a bit more in-depth about the issue and the situation, but I am fairly certain that him being black has nothing to do with the article, Medium, or being “tough” for her.
I also don’t see the haste in jumping to the conclusion that this is only to better her comedy career. For one, I don’t recall her stating anything about her career goals or much about her career in general other than mentioning being in improv.
That was mentioned for an actual purpose because not many people (including myself, although not the least bit surprised) actually knew the Steve Harvey Show had local improv entertainers come on to ask questions, so if she had not mentioned that then I for one would have been stuck wondering why on Earth would a producer randomly select her (from facebook) to go on air and ask a pre-thought out question?
It would be a far reach to say that it was mentioned just as an attempt to advance her comedic career (if that’s even her ultimate career choice).
Secondly, I do not see any attempts to promote any upcoming improv shows, stand-up shows, professional websites, or merchandise. You could possibly argue that she’s promoting herself as a comedian solely on her writing and it’s underlining attempt in being humorous, but that’s still a big stretch considering that’s literally all you’d have to base your claim on.
As far as selling into the narrative of Medium’s users, I also don’t see anything standing-0ut to give reason to doubt her genuine intent in expressing her story or her views within the article. Or is there something you’ve noticed or know about her article or her personally that could help me understand why you feel that way?
I may agree that the article might not be as effective as or meaningful as hoped other than possible entertainment for people. Not that it doesn’t have potential in being an insightful piece, though.
