Thank you for an informative and well articulated response. By the way, I am Mr., but no worries. From what I was able to gather, from reading the 2016 Detroit’s public education proposed budget, is 10–11% of the entire spending will be for their teaching and support staff

It is vague on the specifics, but I am confident that covers salaries at the bare minimum. If that also includes benefits then that would be drastically lower than the national average. That would dismiss teachers being apart of any “rape” as $79 million out of $773 million hardly constitutes as an over-indulgent share of funds.

I was having difficulty pinpointing the specific amount to be spent on benefits or retirement. I will have to do some more research later on, but if you care to read the budget and find something I have overlooked or misunderstood please let me know. Again, only if you care to and thank you.
