The application of retrieving resources and developing them into valuable technology and tools is the process of science in itself. Not in the modern day traditional ideal of science that being the image of scientist in white lab-coats working in a lab. Without the application of the scientific method then none of what you mentioned would be possible.

Even navigating the “open” land is the science of physical geography regardless if you’re a highly educated person in the sciences or just someone with a sense of adventure to explore and discover, that is what the concept of science is based on.

Discovering and learning through trial and error to establish a literal reality of our environment and using that information to create advantages for ourselves as well as other reasons some being good and some being completely detrimental to our existence, of course.
