Why Do We Even Bother Anymore?

Yesterday, someone asked me a question I think we all ask ourselves from time to time. “How do you keep going with everything that’s happening in the world?”
A purposeful life is not for the weak. It requires being present, conscious, and responsible for how we perceive everything we experience.
Sometimes it feels like the more committed we are to Love, the more reality shows us where Love doesn’t exist yet.
It’s not uncommon once we focus on transforming our lives for the better, we find ourselves more alone than ever. One would think once we begin succeeding in what we’ve been called to do, our closest family and friends would be happy for us, until we realize they may have been more comfortable with us in our misery, than in our destiny. And no matter how much inner work we do, spiritual wisdom we gain, or life lessons we learn, there is always more awaiting us.
In one week, we can go from “I have so much I can do”, to “What am I supposed to do?”, to “What’s the point of doing anything?” and cycle back again. There’s so much in the world to distract us, confusion easily overrides clarity, overstimulation steals our motivation, and busyness becomes all we strive for.
I recently read a quote from Jeremy Goldberg that said, “Courage is knowing it might hurt, and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same. And that’s why life is hard.” Just knowing the difference between what is True and what is false is difficult for most of us. A majority of humanity is more driven out of shame than inspiration, ambition over intuition, codependence over authenticity.
So, how do we keep going day after day, month after month, year after year with only our hope it gets better? I believe it all comes down to one simple Truth. Every single thing we do and say is motivated by Love or fear. Love is simple, fear is complicated. And we were each gifted the free will to choose one, but we can’t choose both at the same time.
I personally keep going because I would love to see what happens if I don’t give up. The other option doesn’t make me curious at all.
