I traveled quite a lot. By now I’ve been to over 70 (our team even 100+) countries and it’s always the same problem when looking for a flight.
You play around with dates and destinations until you find the right flight. Mostly you are left with the feeling that there is still a better flight out there.
SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!
The reason is simple. You barely get the right results straight away but have to put them together manually.
However, I found out how to outplay it.
- Search flights separately
- Check flights from the surrounding
- Split flights
By doing that, you are mostly successful to find something better. But it’s a hell lot of effort to do.
See this example, a flight from London to San Francisco on December 10th.
- The cheapest fare you can find is at $492.
- But when I look for a flight from Oakland (+10mi) instead it’s even $705.
- The problem is the connection airport.
If you just look for a connection from OAK to LAX and then to London separately, you’ll get a price of $323 all together.
(SFO-LON) $492 vs. (OAK-LON) $705
vs.
(OAK-LON via LAX) $323
You can save $170!!!! just by looking for the right connection airport. But you can never know which airport to check.
That’s why my friends and I developed an algorithm doing the work for you and finding all those flight automatically by
- checking all airports in the surrounding,
- splitting flights
- checking them separately.
Here is our result. We would love to hear your feedback.
