There are many flight tricks out there that potentially save you a lot of money when booking a flight. Most likely you have not heard about this one. We have always had the feeling that certain countries consistently offer cheaper routes to specific other countries.

Routing through former colonies and their occupants can achieve significant cost savings.

For instance, flights to South America from Europe are often cheaper from Spain than anywhere else in Europe. France is usually the gateway to many African countries. The United Kingdom the best way to get to India.

The reason is simple. Due to a mutual language and economic ties that result from a mutual history, there are very often more flights scheduled between such counties.

When planning your next trip it can always make sense to look into the history of your destination.

The example below shows a flight to Bogota from Europe. The flight from Madrid only costs 636€ vs. 837€ from Frankfurt. Link here.

Madrid — Bogota for 636€ instead of 837€ from Frankfurt

This type of routing should be used, when there are super cheap flights by low cost carriers to Madrid. Of course this also makes sense, if you always wanted to go to Madrid, you basically get a free stopover there.

There is certainly no guarantee, that there are cheaper flights, but it is definitely worth checking.

Savings up to 40% are easily possible
