Throughout the years, I have done a lot of travelling. In my 20s, I travelled extensively for work, but now, I have recently made a New Year’s resolution to spend more time on the road than at home.

In this post, I will be sharing some of the things that have been very useful for me during my travels. I will also provide information about where I got them from and how much I spent on them. I want to emphasize that you don’t need to spend a fortune on travel items. Here are some of my recommended travel essentials:

Tech Pouch

My brother gifted me this item for Christmas. A tech pouch is an excellent item to have if you travel with lots of electronics. Everything has a designated spot, and nothing gets tangled. Soft or hard-shelled cases are available, and you can find them on Amazon for under $20 or at Walmart and Dollar Stores.

Toothbrush charged by USB

I received this electric toothbrush for Christmas, and it is a game-changer. It is petite, which is perfect for travelling. It is charged using USB, which is great because it lasts for a while, even if you don’t have a power outlet nearby. Some models can get expensive, but this one costs around $55 Canadian dollars and is available at drugstores or on Amazon.

Portable charger

I carry a portable charger in my purse, and I purchased this one because of its size. It works with USB, and I charge it at night, so it is ready to go the next day. You can get them on Amazon for around $30 or at Walmart for around $15. Just remember that the smaller the charger, the less it holds, and the more you have to recharge it.

Cardholder with AirTag slot

I use this cardholder to hold my AirTag when travelling. I slide it into my suitcase when I am on a plane, and I keep it in my wallet when I’m not. Although I have not misplaced a wallet in ten years, it is still nice to have this item just in case. It only cost me $12 from BestBuy.

Good pair of earbuds with microphone

I work remotely and always carry a good pair of earbuds with me to take calls. These ones are expensive, but JBL makes an excellent set with a microphone in each bud for a more reasonable price of $32 USD or $50 CAD.

Good universal bag/crossbody/pouch

I purchased a knockoff Herschel Branded Crossbody bag for $10 USD on the Brooklyn Bridge last year, and I love it. You can find unique crossbody bags at thrift stores or Walmart. A visit to a local bag/luggage store may be more expensive, but it depends on your budget.

Good notebook

A notebook is handy for jotting down your experiences, lists, or work notes. I prefer Moleskine books.

A travel pillow

Also a good investment if you’re planning to take long flights or road trips. It can help you sleep better and prevent neck pain. I personally like the inflatable ones because they take up less space in my luggage, and I can adjust the level of firmness to my liking.

You can find travel pillows at most travel or luggage stores, as well as online. Prices can vary depending on the type and quality of the pillow, but you can usually find a decent one for around $20.

Lastly, I recommend investing in a good quality backpack or daypack. It’s important to have a reliable and comfortable bag to carry your essentials, such as your passport, wallet, water bottle, and camera. Look for one that has padded straps and back support, as well as multiple compartments to help you stay organized.

Again, you can find backpacks at most stores that sell luggage or travel gear, as well as online. Prices can vary depending on the brand and size of the bag, but a good quality one can range from $50 to $150.

Overall, these are just a few of the things that I find useful when traveling. Remember that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on travel gear to have a comfortable and enjoyable trip. Just focus on finding the items that work best for you and your travel style, and invest in quality pieces that will last you for many trips to come.
