While Samsung still uses this, a number of other Android devices (notably Google’s Nexus line) have moved to USB-C, which is more equivalent to Apple’s lightening (and is used on newer MacBooks). It’s definitely the direction Android is going, and there has been speculation before about getting rid of headphone jacks on Android in exactly this way, so I don’t think there’s any reason to believe at least some OEMs won’t try it before going wireless.
